The Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) was held at Wingecarribee Shire Council Chambers on Saturday 21st Mrch 2015 and was a hugely successful event with most of the High Schools in our community taking part – some schools with more than one team. Travis Holland was our Secretary General and students got into the event with some national dress to provide some colour.
After a full day of debating major issues of concern to the world – they managed to make their way through 10 resolutions – the winners who will go on to the national competition to be held in Canberra in August were students from the Southern Highlands Christian School who represented China. Second place went to Chevalier College representing Canada and the Peace Prize went to Oxley representing Afghanistan. We had a total of 9 teams and every one of those teams had applied themselves and displayed the research they had done by being able to debate the issues and to reflect the position of the countries they represented. I doubt there was anyone in the room who didn’t learn something as they listened. It was truly inspiring and a credit to those who had done the hard work to make it a reality. Kudos to Rob Uhl and her team of Southern Highlands Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors who pulled off a great success. Congratulations to all.”
