Rotary Club, Berrima District helped sponsor two year 12 students, to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January. Representing both Oxley College and Frensham, the students travelled to ANU, Canberra to join a group of 150 students from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Germany.
The two week program incorporated lectures from a forensic scientist, engineers and variety of other scientists.
During lab visits, they visited a particle accelerator, a burned out observatory, a wind farm and a super computer.
The students also enjoyed social opportunities including a bush dance, disco, riddles and mind games, all of which helped them to bond and form “life long friendships.” They spoke very highly of the staff members, who led the Science Forum and provided much inspiration and support. They were also grateful for the help and support given by local Rotarians.
In closing, both students described their experience as, “the best two weeks of their life”.
